Dorothy Dybisz Speaks at Opening Night of Joseph
The Junior Ensemble students were thrilled after their opening night performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, when actress Dorothy Dybisz (formerly Dorothy Tancredi) joined them on the stage for a lively Q&A session. Ms. Dybisz played Mrs. Potiphar, and understudied for the Narrator, in the original Broadway production of Joseph. Her other Broadway credits include A Chorus Line and Cats.
Questions from students and audience members explored many aspects of pursuing a career as an actor, an aspiration shared by many of the BTC students. Ms. Dybisz reminisced fondly of her many experiences on stage and shared her personal insights and advice with the young BTC actors. It was an exceptionally enriching and unique experience for the students and for audience members who stayed on after the performance.
At one point, Ms. Dybisz began an impromptu recitation of the many colors appearing in Joseph's amazing coat (from the song Joseph's Coat). Immediately, the entire BTC cast joined in with the recitation, proving that by performing in Joseph they had joined what BTC co-Artistic Director Jason Brantman called a "special fraternity."
Ms. Dybisz' visit capped a exciting and marvelous opening night for the Juniors, creating memories that will surely last a lifetime. You can watch and listen to the entire session here.
