Dance Classes

All classes perform in the year-end recital!


Primary Ballet (Grade K-3)

This 45 min class completes a basic barre, beginner ballet terminology, center work including body positions and the positions of the feet, also proper technique with a focus on adagio, petite allegro, and musicality.  Primary Ballet is a real ballet class for young dancers!


Primary Tap (Grade K-3)

A basic-beginner tap class where children gain proper tap technique while making noise with their feet! This class is designed to work on proper warm up exercises, weight exchange, syncopation, percussive rhythms, poise, and call & response variations.  Tap is an energetic and exciting class that stimulates the brain and body.


Jr. Hip Hop (Grade 2-6)

A high-energy class based on fluid dance moves stemming from Ballet & Jazz styles.  These combined with sharp isolated body movements illustrate the urban style formula that we have come to know as Hip Hop technique. A complete physical warm up, dance steps, progression movement, beginning break dancing, Hip Hop routines and choreography.


Basic Ballet (Grade 4-6)

A beginner ballet class focusing on self-expression, proper technique, alignment, natural turn out, correct placement, and vocabulary. Barre work, Center floor work, beginning adagio, petite allegro, and choreography.  


Jr. Broadway Jazz (Grade 4-6)

A fun class that offers classic jazz styles and techniques with a focus on: presentation, proper body placement, and performance.  A thorough warm up, stretch, progressions, center combinations and choreography are taught each class.


Beginner Tap (Grade 4-6)

This class is designed to work on proper warm up exercises, weight exchange, syncopation, percussive rhythms, poise, musicality, and tap fundamental steps like the shuffle, flap, cramp-roll, basic time steps, grapevine, buffalo, maxie-ford, waltz clog, beginner essence steps, brush/spank combinations and more!


Beginner Ballet (Grade 7-12)

This class is for beginners of a certain age and for Advanced beginner students who will soon be continuing on into Int ballet. In each class we complete a full Barre, Center floor work, adagio, petite allegro, and grande allegro. In order to qualify for Int Ballet you must have proper technique, a developed vocabulary, understanding of body awareness, nutrition and approval from instructor.   


Broadway Jazz (Grade 7-12)

This class covers classic Broadway Style Jazz dance techniques with a focus on presentation, proper body placement, and performance.  A thorough warm up, stretch, intermediate and advanced progressions, center combinations and choreography are cumulative each class.


Intermediate Ballet (Grade 7-12)

This ballet class uses various techniques as its base. Proper alignment, natural turnout, correct placement, vocabulary and basic porte de bras and epaulement will be reinforced. The class consists of: Pre Warm-up: parallel stretching, exercising, pointing of feet in preparation of the barre. Barre: Plies, tendus, degage, frappe, rond de jambe par terre et en l'air, battement, stretch, as examples. Center floor: adagio, petite allegro, pirouettes, turns across the floor, waltz, mazurka, polonaise, combinations of center/moving jumps, grande allegro.  


Intermediate Tap (Grade 7-12)

Designed to refine tap skills while moving beyond the fundamentals at a quicker pace than in the beginner course.  Good use of vocabulary and proper technique are required as fundamentals learned are put to use, including new variations of the steps, rhythms, and patterns through combinations that focus on strong musical sounds as well as ease of motion. (This class also doubles as our beginner tap level for upper school grades 7-12 only)


Hip Hop (Grade 7-12)

A strenuous technique class based on fluid dance moves stemming from Ballet, Street, and Jazz styles.  These styles combined with sharp isolated body movements illustrate the urban style formula that we have come to know as Hip Hop.  A complete physical warm up, dance steps, progression movement, beginning break dancing, expression of individual style, footwork, coordination, rhythm, athleticism & stamina, routines and choreography.  


Modern (Grade 7-12)

Creative self-expression and organic impulse are both a part of the modern dance technique.  Which also incorporates the use of strong ballet and contemporary movement disciplines.  A full warm up, adagio, progressions, floor work, and cumulative combinations are built upon in each class. Modern dance is a specialized form of dance where  choreographers often use the human experience to create both abstract and narrative movement theatre pieces.


Advanced Ballet (Grade 9-12)

BY INVITATION ONLY
For dancers who have trained & achieved proper technique and knowledge of themselves not only as dancers but also as beginning professionals. This is an invite only class based on the intensity of prior training, professionalism, and ability.  


Advanced Tap (Grade 9-12)

BY INVITATION ONLY
Rhythm patterns for the feet including, standard time steps, percussive styles and rhythms are studied through the more complicated steps of Tap repertoire. This technique class will focus on faster and more intricate footwork.  The dancer at this level will develop speed, clarity, dynamics, and the ability to execute complex rhythmic combinations with musicality and absolute confidence.  Variations on the single, double, triple versions of many fundamental movements and advanced choreography are built upon from week to week.

Who We Are
Broadway Training Center of Westchester, under the artistic direction of Jason Brantman and Fiona Santos, was recently awarded Best Theatre Classes in Southern Westchester by Westchester Magazine.  This premiere performing arts school, located in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, provides children, teens, and adults with Broadway oriented performing arts training focusing on the joy of accomplishment and the enrichment of personal expression through classroom and performance work. Broadway Training Center of Westchester is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
